สมาคมวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ (Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters: SEAProTI) เป็นองค์กรวิชาชีพอิสระที่จดทะเบียนอย่างถูกต้องตามกฎหมายของประเทศไทย และเป็นองค์กรเดียวในประเทศไทยที่ออกใบอนุญาตให้ประกอบวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามในประเทศไทย และทั่วโลก ให้ปฏิบัติหน้าที่ในนามสมาคมวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ มีพันธกิจหลักในการยกระดับมาตรฐานการแปลและการล่ามในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ให้เทียบเท่ามาตรฐานสากล ทั้งในด้านคุณภาพ ความโปร่งใส และความเป็นมืออาชีพ ตลอดจนสนับสนุนให้ผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพสามารถให้บริการด้านภาษาที่มีความถูกต้อง แม่นยำ และมีจรรยาบรรณต่อผู้ใช้บริการทุกภาคส่วน สมาคมทำหน้าที่เป็นศูนย์กลางในการพัฒนาศักยภาพของนักแปลและล่าม โดยดำเนินการจัดอบรมหลักสูตรต่าง ๆ เพื่อเตรียมความพร้อมผู้สนใจเข้าสู่วิชาชีพ ตลอดจนหลักสูตรพัฒนาความก้าวหน้าอย่างต่อเนื่องตามมาตรฐาน CPD นอกจากนี้ SEAProTI ยังดำเนินระบบการรับรองคุณวุฒิของนักแปลและล่าม ซึ่งประกอบด้วยการประเมินผลงานจริง การตรวจสอบเอกสารประกอบวิชาชีพ และการทดสอบสมรรถนะในด้านภาษา เทคนิคการแปล การล่ามแบบพูดพร้อม พูดตาม รวมถึงการประเมินด้านจรรยาบรรณ เพื่อให้ผู้ที่ผ่านเกณฑ์ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็น “นักแปลรับรอง” หรือ “ล่ามรับรอง” ตามมาตรฐานของสมาคม บทบาทสำคัญอีกประการหนึ่งของสมาคมคือการเสริมสร้างเครือข่ายของผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพด้านภาษาในภูมิภาค เพื่อเปิดพื้นที่แลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ ประสบการณ์ และแนวปฏิบัติที่ดีระหว่างนักแปล ล่าม และผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากหลากหลายสาขา นอกจากนี้ สมาคมยังมีส่วนร่วมในการเผยแพร่มาตรฐานด้านภาษาและการสื่อสารที่ถูกต้องในงานกฎหมาย งานราชการ งานธุรกิจ และงานสาธารณสุข รวมถึงมีส่วนสนับสนุนการบังคับใช้มาตรฐานการแปลและล่ามที่สอดคล้องกับหลักเกณฑ์ของหน่วยงานรัฐ เช่น กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ กระทรวงยุติธรรม และองค์กรระหว่างประเทศที่เกี่ยวข้อง การเป็นสมาชิกหรือการได้รับการรับรองจาก SEAProTI ช่วยสร้างความเชื่อมั่นแก่ผู้ใช้บริการว่า ผู้ปฏิบัติงานมีความสามารถเพียงพอในด้านภาษา เทคนิควิชาชีพ และจรรยาบรรณ ถือเป็นมาตรฐานอาชีพที่ช่วยป้องกันความเสี่ยงจากการแปลผิด การสื่อสารคลาดเคลื่อน หรือการใช้ผู้ประกอบอาชีพที่ไม่ได้มาตรฐาน ทั้งยังส่งเสริมให้เกิดระบบตรวจสอบย้อนกลับและความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมแห่งวิชาชีพ ในฐานะองค์กรวิชาชีพด้านภาษา SEAProTI จึงเป็นกลไกสำคัญที่สนับสนุนทั้งผู้ประกอบอาชีพและสาธารณชน ด้วยการให้คำปรึกษา ให้ข้อมูลด้านการรับรองเอกสาร การแปลราชการ และการใช้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านภาษา ตลอดจนทำหน้าที่เป็นสะพานเชื่อมระหว่างนักแปลและล่ามคุณภาพกับภาคส่วนต่าง ๆ ของสังคม ทั้งภาครัฐ เอกชน องค์กรระหว่างประเทศ และประชาชนทั่วไป The Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI) is an independent professional organization legally registered under the laws of Thailand. It is the sole organization in Thailand authorized to issue professional licences for translators and interpreters, both within the country and internationally, enabling practitioners to serve in the name of the Association. SEAProTI’s core mission is to elevate translation and interpreting standards across Southeast Asia to meet international benchmarks in terms of quality, transparency, and professionalism, while ensuring that practitioners deliver accurate, precise, and ethically sound language services to all sectors. The Association serves as a central hub for developing the competencies of translators and interpreters by offering a wide range of training programs for newcomers to the profession as well as continuing professional development (CPD) courses for established practitioners. SEAProTI also administers a comprehensive professional certification system that includes evaluation of real work samples, verification of supporting professional documents, and competency assessments covering language proficiency, translation techniques, simultaneous and consecutive interpreting skills, and professional ethics. Successful candidates are registered as “Certified Translators” or “Certified Interpreters” under SEAProTI standards. Another key role of the Association is strengthening the professional network of language practitioners throughout the region. SEAProTI provides platforms for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and dissemination of best practices among translators, interpreters, and subject-matter experts from various fields. The Association also contributes to promoting accurate language and communication standards across legal, governmental, business, and public-health domains, and supports the enforcement of translation and interpreting standards aligned with the requirements of government bodies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and relevant international organizations. Membership or certification by SEAProTI assures clients that practitioners possess the necessary linguistic competence, technical skills, and ethical integrity. It serves as a professional safeguard against mistranslation, miscommunication, and the use of unqualified practitioners, while reinforcing systems of accountability, traceability, and public trust in the profession. As a professional body in the language sector, SEAProTI plays a vital role in supporting both practitioners and the public. It provides consultation, information on document legalization and official translation procedures, and guidance on engaging qualified language experts. It also acts as a bridge connecting high-quality translators and interpreters with various segments of society, including government agencies, the private sector, international organizations, and the general public.
